Is there a PvE-only DMZ mode?
Going in alone changes your squad size. It does not remove rival players from the extraction zone.

What PvPvE means here
DMZ includes AI enemies and human Operators. Infinity Ward explained that the single-squad playlist seen in developer footage was an internal testing tool. Turning off Squad Fill does not remove rival players.
PvE objectives do not imply PvE-only rules
You can choose AI threats and mission objectives as your focus. That describes your goal, not a restriction on everyone else in the server. Our Solo guide covers the exact Squad Fill and matchmaking rules.
Story content is not a safety guarantee
Do not use the presence of a story objective as evidence that other players cannot interfere. Plan around the actual server rules and the situation in front of you.
